California Titans 16U vanquishes Pikes Peak Miners 16U in shootout, 2-1

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as California Titans 16U defeated Pikes Peak Miners 16U in a shootout 2-1.

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. California Titans 16U also got a shootout goal from Troy Robertson.

California Titans 16U overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. California Titans 16U fell behind 1-0 after a goal by Pikes Peak Miners 16U's Hudson Cramer at 11:51 in the second period. California Titans 16U tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Daylon Mannon at 15:41 in the second period.

Pikes Peak Miners 16U was stymied by California Titans 16U's netminder Veeti Haapasalo, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. Haapasalo certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.82 entering the contest.

California Titans 16U excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Pikes Peak Miners 16U was unable to stop California Titans 16U from sending pucks towards the net, and California Titans 16U eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

In addition, California Titans 16U received assists from Cameron Manory and Austin Hanson, who each chipped in one.

Pikes Peak Miners 16U stifled California Titans 16U's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pikes Peak Miners 16U forced California Titans 16U goalie Haapasalo to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Pikes Peak Miners 16U could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Other players who recorded assists for Pikes Peak Miners 16U were Tom Ignatovich and Nicholas Kiemel, who contributed one each.

California Titans 16U incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Pikes Peak Miners 16U's David Fessenden stopped 33 shots out of the 34 that he faced.
