St. Louis Selects 18U vanquishes Omaha AAA 18U in shootout, 6-5

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as St. Louis Selects 18U defeated Omaha AAA 18U in a shootout 6-5.

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Omaha AAA 18U's shootout goals were scored by Matt Christian and Nico Blachman. St. Louis Selects 18U's other shootout goals were scored by David Kelley and Brycon Johnson.

St. Louis Selects 18U saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. St. Louis Selects 18U made the score 5-3 on a goal by John Moeller at 13:32 in the third period. Omaha AAA 18U evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Blachman at 16:30 in the third period.

St. Louis Selects 18U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Omaha AAA 18U power plays. St. Louis Selects 18U surpassed its usual scoring output this season. St. Louis Selects 18U has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

St. Louis Selects 18U was helped by Johnson, who tallied two goals and one assist. Johnson scored the first of his two goals at 12:58 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Louis Selects 18U. Jordan Bratton picked up the assist. Johnson's next tally made the score 3-3 with 17:40 left in the third period. Bratton assisted on the tally. St. Louis Selects 18U additionally got points from Bratton, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Moeller, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Kelley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis Selects 18U were Eric Stelmacki and Shane Quinn, who each chipped in one.

Omaha AAA 18U excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. St. Louis Selects 18U was unable to stop Omaha AAA 18U from sending pucks towards the net, and Omaha AAA 18U eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Omaha AAA 18U's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Omaha AAA 18U is averaging 2.0 goals against for the season.

Omaha AAA 18U was helped by Tycho Falk, who tallied two goals. Falk scored the first of his two goals at 4:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Omaha AAA 18U. Grant Anderson picked up the assist. Falk's next tally made the score 2-2 with 4:43 left in the second period. Jacob Loman provided the assist. Jack LeBlanc also scored for Omaha AAA 18U. In addition, Omaha AAA 18U received assists from TJ Polglaze, who had one and Christian, who had two.

Zach Young rejected 27 shots on goal for St. Louis Selects 18U. St. Louis Selects 18U incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Darion Hanson recorded 19 saves for Omaha AAA 18U. Omaha AAA 18U incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
