Omaha AAA 18U vanquishes Pikes Peak Miners 18U in shootout, 3-2

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Omaha AAA 18U defeated Pikes Peak Miners 18U in a shootout 3-2.

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Omaha AAA 18U also got a shootout goal from Matt Christian.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U's power play was ineffective against Omaha AAA 18U's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Omaha AAA 18U excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Omaha AAA 18U forced Pikes Peak Miners 18U goalie Matty Taylor to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Omaha AAA 18U was helped by Jack LeBlanc, who tallied one goal. LeBlanc scored on the power play 6:26 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Omaha AAA 18U. An interference penalty on Fedor Linkov had put Omaha AAA 18U on the power play. Nico Blachman assisted on the tally. Shayne Monahan also scored for Omaha AAA 18U. In addition, Omaha AAA 18U received assists from Jake Levin, who had one.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U forced Omaha AAA 18U's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 31 shots and forcing 29 saves. Darion Hanson made zero stops and Lucas Van Dyke made 29.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U was helped by Vlad Zhidkikh, who had one goal. Zhidkikh scored 13:54 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Luke Boose picked up the assist. Pikes Peak Miners 18U also got points from Boose, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Pikes Peak Miners 18U came via David Dziezawiec, Jake Eubank, and Trevor Paradise, who contributed one each.

Omaha AAA 18U incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matty Taylor made 34 saves for Pikes Peak Miners 18U on 36 shots. Pikes Peak Miners 18U incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
