Esmark Stars 16U beats St. Louis Selects 16U 4-3 after comeback scare

Esmark Stars 16U survived a determined comeback attempt by St. Louis Selects 16U on the way to a 4-3 win.

Esmark Stars 16U took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have St. Louis Selects 16U storm back on a Cory Robinson goal 6:26 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Esmark Stars 16U was paced by Ben Friedland, who tallied one goal and one assist. Friedland scored 14:44 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Esmark Stars 16U. Shane Riley provided the assist.

Esmark Stars 16U's power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having 13 power play opportunities.

Esmark Stars 16U also got a goal from Cam Williams as well. In addition, Esmark Stars 16U received assists from Jasper Uricchio, who had two and Mars Garber and Matts Thielemann, who contributed one each.

St. Louis Selects 16U stifled Esmark Stars 16U's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Louis Selects 16U's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as St. Louis Selects 16U finished with 50 penalty minutes.

Clayton Dawe also scored for St. Louis Selects 16U. More assists for St. Louis Selects 16U came via Tyler Hinterser, Zachary Fizer, and Samir Abouelhana, who each chipped in one.

Hayden Chieffo made 23 saves for Esmark Stars 16U on 26 shots. Esmark Stars 16U incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. John Massara recorded 15 saves for St. Louis Selects 16U. St. Louis Selects 16U registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
