Pikes Peak Miners 16U vanquishes Pursuit of Excellence 16U in shootout, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Pikes Peak Miners 16U defeated Pursuit of Excellence 16U in a shootout 4-3.

The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Pursuit of Excellence 16U got a shootout goal from Aiden Buhler. In addition to the clincher, Pikes Peak Miners 16U got a shootout goal from Ross Hanson.

Hanson had a great game for Pikes Peak Miners 16U, netting two goals. Hanson found the back of the net 2:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pikes Peak Miners 16U and again while 5:57 into the first to make the score 2-0 Pikes Peak Miners 16U.

Pikes Peak Miners 16U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pursuit of Excellence 16U to score on any of its three power plays. Pikes Peak Miners 16U surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Pikes Peak Miners 16U has scored at the pace of 1.8 goal per game during the current campaign.

Pikes Peak Miners 16U also got a goal from Nicholas Kiemel as well. More assists for Pikes Peak Miners 16U came via Noah Kiemel, Martin Pietraszek, Griffen Medina, Tom Ignatovich, and Dillon Milliron, who each chipped in one.

Pursuit of Excellence 16U was led by Cayden Kraus, who registered one goal and one assist. Kraus scored 11:41 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Matthew Kowalski assisted on the tally. Pursuit of Excellence 16U also had goals scored by Stephen Perreault and Brody Ryan, who scored one goal each. In addition, Pursuit of Excellence 16U received assists from Liam Manwarring and Alec Zawatsky, who contributed one each.

David Fessenden recorded 23 saves for Pikes Peak Miners 16U. Pikes Peak Miners 16U incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Pursuit of Excellence 16U's Keaton Dyck stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Pursuit of Excellence 16U incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
