San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U vanquishes Pursuit of Excellence 16U in shootout, 3-2

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U defeated Pursuit of Excellence 16U in a shootout 3-2.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Pursuit of Excellence 16U got shootout goals from Matthew Kowalski, Alec Zawatsky, and Aiden Buhler. In addition to the clincher, San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U got shootout goals from Evan Rittenhouse, Sam Jenkins, and Tyler Buchanan.

San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pursuit of Excellence 16U to score on any of its four power plays.

San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U was helped by Andrew Bascom, who racked up one goal. Bascom scored 13:34 into the second period to make the score 1-0 San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U. Mark Gaynor picked up the assist. Kyle Moore also scored for San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U. In addition, San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U received assists from Jenkins and Tyler Nelson, who each chipped in one.

Pursuit of Excellence 16U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U power plays. Pursuit of Excellence 16U did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Pursuit of Excellence 16U puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.

Pursuit of Excellence 16U was helped by Cayden Kraus, who had one goal. Kraus scored 15:29 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Ethan Trampuh assisted on the tally. Pursuit of Excellence 16U also got a goal from Cassidy Bowes as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pursuit of Excellence 16U were Oleg Senko, who had one.

San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U's Jake Acton stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Logan Larock made 23 saves for Pursuit of Excellence 16U on 25 shots. Pursuit of Excellence 16U incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
