Chicago Mission 16U rolls over San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U, 5-0

Chicago Mission 16U had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-0 win over San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U.

Chicago Mission 16U pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes.

Chicago Mission 16U was led by Dominick Mersch, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Mersch scored 9:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chicago Mission 16U. Nicholas Nardella assisted on the tally.

Chicago Mission 16U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U to score on any of its six power plays. Chicago Mission 16U was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. Chicago Mission 16U averages 2.6 goals allowed per game. San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U's defense shut down Chicago Mission 16U's forwards for much of the game, and Chicago Mission 16U got off only 14 shots during the contest.

Chicago Mission 16U also got points from Joey Abate, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Nardella, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Chicago Mission 16U included Kamil Sadlocha and Jack Vincent, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chicago Mission 16U received assists from Graham Slaggert and Sean Dhooghe, who contributed one each.

San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere eight shots against Chicago Mission 16U's defense.

Evan Fear made eight saves for Chicago Mission 16U on eight shots. Chicago Mission 16U registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Jake Acton rejected nine shots on goal for San Jose Jr. Sharks 16U.
