West Michigan stifles Peoria's comeback, gains 4-3 victory

The West Michigan Wolves came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Peoria Mustangs, but did just enough to escape with a 4-3 victory.

West Michigan led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Wolves' Ethan Stafford scored at 14:52 in the first period to put West Michigan up 3-0.

The Wolves got the win with help from a great game by Steven Rhodes, who had two goals and one assist. Rhodes scored the first of his two goals at 3:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 West Michigan. Sean Smalley assisted on the tally. Rhodes' next tally made the score 4-2 West Michigan with 7:27 left in the third period. Stafford picked up the assist.

West Michigan excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

West Michigan also got points from Stafford, who also tallied one goal and two assists. West Michigan also got a goal from Michael Tratar as well. Other players who recorded assists for West Michigan were Dakota Ulmer and Kyle Keeder, who each chipped in one.

Peoria kept the Wolves' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hunter Vorva made 30 saves on 33 shots.

The Mustangs were led by Kai Barber, who had two goals. Barber scored the first of his two goals at 10:03 into the second period to make the score 3-2 West Michigan. Levi Armstrong assisted on the tally. Barber's next tally made the score 4-3 West Michigan with 34 seconds left in the third period. Chance Homerin picked up the assist. Nick Conner also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Jason Henry, who had one and Austin Ziakas, who had two.

West Michigan incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Marc Hayton made 26 saves for Peoria on 30 shots. The Mustangs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
