Huge game by Sheptytsky boosts Texas over Sugar Land, 8-2

The Texas Jr. Brahmas' Mykyta Sheptytsky had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing five assists in his team's 8-2 win over the Sugar Land Imperials.

Sheptytsky beat Dakota Smith with a shot 7:25 into the second period on the power play to make the score 3-1 Texas. An interference penalty on Kenny Garrett had put Texas on the power play. Nick Nitta assisted on the tally. Sheptytsky dished an assist on Ryan Dunner's goal that made the score 4-1 Texas at 16:06 into the second period. He then added assists on Dunner's goal at 4:51 into the third, on Kurt Thiele's goal at 14:30 into the third, on Devin Pierce's goal at 15:48 into the third, and on Pierce's goal at 16:53 into the third.

Sugar Land's five penalties came back to haunt it, as the Imperials let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

The Jr. Brahmas managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Texas ended up below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. Sugar Land was unable to stop the Jr. Brahmas from sending pucks towards the net, and Texas eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. The Jr. Brahmas surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Texas averages 3.7 goals per contest.

Texas also got points from Pierce, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Sam Gagnon, who also registered two goals and two assists. More assists for Texas came via Brock Brown, who had two and Nick Ford, who had four.

The Imperials were helped by Aksel Campbell, who racked up one goal. Campbell scored 16:23 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Texas. Frazer Ellis picked up the assist. Matthew Winkle also scored for Sugar Land. In addition, Sugar Land received assists from Ryan James and Matthew Jung, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Brahmas' Tristan Canter stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Smith rejected 35 shots on goal for Sugar Land. The Imperials totaled 43 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Sugar Land, Winkle and Garrett were ejected from the contest.
