Chicago holds on for 2-1 win against Breezy Point

The Breezy Point North Stars tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Chicago Junior Bulldogs held on for a 2-1 victory.

Chicago made the score 2-0 on a goal by Ryan Maksimovic at 9:03 in the third period, and Breezy Point got as close as 2-1 when Brooke Evans scored 16:58 into the third period.

The North Stars were stymied by the Junior Bulldogs' netminder Troy Pierce, who stopped 47 shots during the victory. The solid play of Pierce will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.73.

Chicago's penalty kill excelled, as the Junior Bulldogs gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Chicago kept Breezy Point's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jaxson Gosnell made 37 saves on 39 shots. The Junior Bulldogs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Chicago additionally got points from Toms Taurins, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Chicago came via Tyler Seltenriech, Michael Howard, and Matthew Adams, who contributed one each.

The North Stars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Chicago to score on any of its three power plays. The Junior Bulldogs were unable to stop Breezy Point from sending pucks towards the net, and the North Stars eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

In addition, Breezy Point received assists from Jack Anderholm and Ryan Herbert, who each chipped in one.

Breezy Point incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
