Helena downs Great Falls, 3-1

Johnny Bonta tallied one point to lead the Helena Bighorns to a 3-1 victory over the Great Falls Americans.

Helena's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Bighorns had been spending in the box.

Helena also had goals scored by Nick Trefry and Cody Vanthournout, who scored one goal each. In addition, Helena received assists from Daniel Liberko, Kendall Bolen-Porter, Kyler Chartier, Brandt Miller, Jarrett Scheibel, and Liam McDonough, who contributed one each.

Great Falls racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Americans surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Great Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Americans could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Great Falls puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game.

The Americans were led by Dylan Garton, who scored the team's only goal. Garton scored on the power play 6:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A checking from behind penalty on Gavin Lubin had put Great Falls on the power play. Cody Page picked up the assist.

Grant Martens rejected 22 shots on goal for Helena. For the Bighorns, Scheibel was ejected from the game. Lauren Massie made 20 saves for the Americans on 23 shots. Great Falls registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Americans ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Miles Giorgione was ejected from the game.
