Breezy Point holds on for 5-3 win against Minnesota

The Minnesota Flying Aces tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Breezy Point North Stars held on for a 5-3 victory.

A goal by Ryan Mezera put Breezy Point up 5-2 in the third period, but Minnesota pulled to within two on Jesse Brown's tally 16:47 into the third period.

Jordan Carey was all over the ice for the North Stars, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Carey scored 2:17 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Breezy Point. Mezera assisted on the tally.

Breezy Point's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The North Stars had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. Breezy Point's offense rang up 42 shots on the Flying Aces' net. The North Stars found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Breezy Point averages 2.8 goals per contest.

Breezy Point additionally got points from Tyler Larwood, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Mezera, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Breezy Point also had goals scored by Alex Mimmack and Coleton Anderson, who each put in one. In addition, Breezy Point received assists from Linder Kenyon, Sean Viti, and Seyia Hayata, who each chipped in one.

Minnesota racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. The Flying Aces surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game.

Minnesota was helped by Zachary Johnston, who tallied two goals and one assist. Johnston scored the first of his two goals at 6:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minnesota. Travis Johnston picked up the assist. Johnston's next tally made the score 4-2 Breezy Point with 5:59 left in the second period. The Flying Aces had gotten the advantage when the North Stars' Austin Weber was sent off for head contact. Johnston assisted on the tally. More assists for Minnesota came via Jace Cseter, who had two.

Jaxson Gosnell took the win and made 22 saves before being replaced by Kyle Chmielecki who made three saves. Breezy Point registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Matt Douglas recorded 37 saves for Minnesota. The Flying Aces registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
