Toledo rides Bates to victory over Cleveland, 4-1

Glen Bates stood on his head and made 25 saves to lead the Toledo Cherokee to a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks.

Toledo's penalty kill excelled, as the Cherokee gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Toledo was led by Zach Swanson, who registered one goal. Swanson scored 6:33 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Toledo. Austin Turner picked up the assist.

The Cherokee forced Cleveland goalie Alec Rounds to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Toledo was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 28 penalty minutes.

Toledo additionally got points from Dominic Pisanti, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Toledo also had goals scored by Tristin Snyder and Kyler Omey, who each put in one. In addition, Toledo received assists from Tyler Zalecki, who had one and Cody Estrel, who had three.

The Jr. Lumberjacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Cleveland was led by Patrick Briggs, who scored the team's only goal. Briggs scored on the power play 8:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Jr. Lumberjacks had taken the advantage when the Cherokee's David Bogart got sent off for elbowing. Tyler Dalton provided the assist.

Cleveland's Rounds stopped 41 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
