Sugar Land erases deficit to stun Point Mallard, 7-5Sugar Land Ice Sun, Feb 08, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Point Mallard Ducks could not hold down the Sugar Land Imperials, and Imperials erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 7-5 win. Sugar Land let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a three hole to pick up the win. The Imperials took a 4-3 advantage on a goal by Ryan Worley at 5:50 in the second period. Sugar Land went down 3-0 after Point Mallard's Stephen Coulter put the puck home on the power play at 12:12 in the first period. After evening things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Jake Champaign at 14:51 in the second, the Imperials got the game-winner from Frank Muscarella at 19:59 in the second period. Worley was all over the ice for Sugar Land, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. The Imperials were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Sugar Land surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Imperials forced Ducks' netminders to work all game long, ripping 34 shots and forcing 27 saves. Roman Bengert made 13 stops and Aaron Brickman made 14. Sugar Land bested its season scoring average. This season, the Imperials average 3.0 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Sugar Land also got points from Alex Tilman, who also had one goal and one assist, Muscarella, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Matt DeNure, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Sugar Land also had goals scored by Chandler Cole and Matthew Jung, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Sugar Land were Spencer Sabourin, who had one and Matthew Winkle, Ryan James, and Drew Waetjen, who contributed two each. The Ducks forced Sugar Land's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Roni Sener made 28 stops and Timothy OSullivan made two. The defensemen of Point Mallard were also effective in the Imperials' zone, and came away with two goals. The Ducks were helped by Justin Clark, who registered one goal. Clark scored 8:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Point Mallard. Josh Hamilton provided the assist. Others who scored for Point Mallard included Justin Provencher and Matt Darnell, who scored one goal each. In addition, Point Mallard received assists from Justin Delisle, who had two and Jake Cox, Brad Reitter, and Killian Gray, who each chipped in one. Sugar Land registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Point Mallard totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. For the Ducks, Delisle was ejected from the game.
