Huge game by Martin boosts Wisconsin over Chicago, 9-2

Ryan Martin had two goals and two assists to lead the Wisconsin Whalers to a 9-2 victory over the Chicago Junior Bulldogs.

Martin scored short handed at 13:31 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Wisconsin and again while 3:13 into the second to make the score 5-2 Wisconsin.

Chicago's 14 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Junior Bulldogs let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Wisconsin racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Whalers had been spending in the box. Wisconsin stifled Chicago's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Junior Bulldogs were unable to stop the Whalers from sending pucks towards the net, and Wisconsin eventually piled up 62 shots on goal. The Whalers' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Wisconsin averages 3.9 goals per contest. The Whalers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Wisconsin additionally got points from Thomas Hanson, who also tallied one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Peter Henderson, who also had two goals and one assist, and Isaac Hale, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Wisconsin included Joe Perrelle, Yves Leemann, and Kaleb Morley, who each put in one. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Alex Anderson, who had two and Caleb Voster, Connor Morgan, Dan Addie, Nathan Viberg, Adam Alcott, Austin Lewis, and Jamison Westaby, who contributed one each.

Chicago forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 13 minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. The Junior Bulldogs had been averaging 30.0 minutes in penalties per game. Chicago's offense rang up 49 shots on Wisconsin's net.

The Junior Bulldogs were helped by Ryan Maksimovic, who grabbed one goal. Maksimovic scored 5:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Chicago. Tyler Seltenriech picked up the assist. Chicago also got a goal from Matthew Adams as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chicago were Scott Schroeder and Toms Taurins, who each chipped in one.

Chris Johansen rejected 47 shots on goal for the Whalers. Sam Harden recorded 53 saves for Chicago. The Junior Bulldogs registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. For Chicago, Michael Ellis was ejected from the game.
