Billings uses shootout to best Great Falls, 4-3 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Billings Bulls defeated the Great Falls Americans in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Great Falls' shootout goals were scored by Lucas Lomax and Reed Link. In addition to the clincher, Billings got shootout goals from TJ Theodosopoulos and Cameron Birklid.

The Bulls were led by Josh Pena, who tallied one goal. Pena scored on the power play 8:04 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Billings earned a power play opportunity when Blake Miller was put in the box for boarding. Birklid picked up the assist.

In a losing effort, the Americans were sparked by Austin Krantz, who registered two goals. Krantz scored the first of his two goals at 19:11 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Malachi Bushey provided the assist. Krantz's next tally made the score 3-3 with 17:58 left in the third period. Bushey picked up the assist.

The Bulls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Great Falls power plays. Billings' offense rang up 38 shots on Great Falls' net.

Others who scored for Billings included Bryce Jensen and Theodosopoulos, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Billings were Tristan Henrichs, who had two and Cole Semchak, Ralfs Karelis, and Ian Wiljanen, who each chipped in one.

The Americans kept the Bulls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Semchak made 33 saves on 36 shots. Great Falls' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Americans average 1.9 goal allowed per game.

Great Falls also got a goal from Georgy Ostapchuk as well. More assists for Great Falls came via Dylan Garton, Zack Mese, Craig Hayes, and Wade Wylie, who contributed one each.

Billings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Lauren Massie rejected 34 shots on goal for Great Falls. The Americans ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
