Wisconsin wins tough contest against Peoria, 4-2Owens Rec Ctr Wed, Jan 28, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Wisconsin Whalers escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Peoria Mustangs. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Ryan Martin's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. Wisconsin got the win thanks to a great game by Martin, who had two goals and one assist. Martin scored the first of his two goals at 19:50 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wisconsin. Nathan Viberg picked up the assist. Martin's next tally made the score 4-2 Wisconsin with 13:47 left in the third period. The Whalers earned a power play opportunity when Jack Power Wayvon was put in the box for kneeing. Will Holtan assisted on the tally. Wisconsin forced Peoria goalie Nicholas Piech to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Others who scored for Wisconsin included Kaleb Morley and Isaac Hale, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Thomas Hanson, who had one. The Whalers were unable to stop the Mustangs from sending pucks towards the net, and Peoria eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The Mustangs were helped by Jason Hoehn, who tallied one goal. Hoehn scored on the power play 11:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wisconsin. Peoria had gained a power play chance when Viberg was whistled for tripping. Thomas Kolaz provided the assist. Mitchell McPherson also scored for Peoria. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Marc Peters and Austin Ziakas, who each chipped in one. Evan Moyse recorded 36 saves for Wisconsin. The Whalers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Mustangs' Piech stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Peoria incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
