Pittsburgh rips Southern Tier, 6-0

The Pittsburgh Vengeance had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-0 win over the Southern Tier Xpress.

Pittsburgh was led by Kenneth White, who finished with one goal. White scored 1:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pittsburgh. Leo Blore provided the assist.

The Vengeance forced Southern Tier's netminders to work all game long, taking 32 shots and forcing 26 saves. Tyler Geloneck made eight stops and Brendan Shuck made 18. Pittsburgh put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Xpress to score on any of their three power plays. The Vengeance's defensive effort looked to be improved. Pittsburgh gives up 2.6 goals on average per game. The Vengeance outdid their season average for goals scored. Pittsburgh averages 3.6 goals per game. The Vengeance's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Pittsburgh additionally got points from Nils Markgren, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Jake Salak, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pittsburgh included Gus Peponidis and Gavin Cummings, who each put in one. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Brennan Conway, Michael Straub, Tyler Speis, and Jake Parry, who contributed one each and Cody Black and Bryan Hovanec, who each chipped in two.

Southern Tier did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Xpress average 3.7 goals per game. Southern Tier's offense was handcuffed by Pittsburgh's defensive play, and the Xpress managed only 14 shots on goal during the game.

Brian Baker recorded 14 saves for the Vengeance. Pittsburgh incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Southern Tier incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
