Southern Tier downs Metro in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Southern Tier Xpress pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Metro Jets on a clutch goal by Mark Sunde.

Sunde had two goals to lead Southern Tier to victory. Sunde scored at 18:15 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Southern Tier and again while 3:57 into the fourth to make the score 4-3 Southern Tier.

The Xpress' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game Southern Tier had been spending in the box.

Southern Tier also had goals scored by Justin Andriaccio and Brian Grant, who scored one goal each. More assists for Southern Tier came via Luke Sunde, who had two and Tyler Berry, Tim Weisgerber, Philip Grippi, and Victor McCutcheon, who contributed one each.

Metro racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and three majors for 81 minutes in penalty time. The Jets had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Metro's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Southern Tier power plays.

The Jets were helped by Andrew Sawyer, who tallied one goal. Sawyer scored on the power play 14:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Metro. Metro had gotten the advantage when the Xpress' Owen Harris was sent off for interference. Jason Newel picked up the assist. Others who scored for Metro included Pearce Vance and Jacob Drinkard, who each put in one. In addition, Metro received assists from David Chavis, Tyler Layle, Jake Sealy, Zach Koonce, and Matt Dempsey, who each chipped in one.

Cody Gibson rejected 26 shots on goal for Southern Tier. Jake Stephan recorded 12 saves for the Jets. Metro registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Jets, Cody Jones was ejected from the game.
