Goor stymies Topeka, Twin City wins 4-1

Robbie Goor had a standout game with 42 saves, and the Twin City Steel beat the Topeka Capitals 4-1.

Twin City was led by Aharon Lara, who tallied one goal. Lara scored 11:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Twin City. Lance Carney assisted on the tally.

The Steel kept Topeka's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brett Malkmus made 48 saves on 52 shots.

Twin City additionally got points from Mathias Ahman, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Russel Barone, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jay Paul also scored for Twin City. In addition, Twin City received assists from Cody Thurman, David Becker, Jon Plaszcz, and Connor Boscaccy, who each chipped in one.

The Capitals stifled Twin City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Topeka's offense operated below its season average. The Capitals average 3.7 goals per game. The Steel were unable to stop Topeka from sending pucks towards the net, and the Capitals eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Topeka was led by Tre Kautzman, who scored the team's only goal. Kautzman scored 5:40 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Steve MacIver provided the assist.

Twin City totaled 41 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Steel ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Plaszcz was ejected from the game. The Capitals totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
