Cleveland vanquishes Toledo in shootout, 3-2 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks defeated the Toledo Cherokee in a shootout 3-2 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Toledo got shootout goals from Tyler Zalecki and Mark McGee. Cleveland's other shootout goals were scored by Tyler Houmard and Jonathan Dagnal.

Tyler Dalton had two goals to lead the Jr. Lumberjacks to victory. Dalton's tallies came on the power play at 59 seconds into the third period to make the score 1-1 and on the power play 18:17 into the third to make the score 2-1 Cleveland.

Cleveland forced the Cherokee goalie Aaron Callan to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Jr. Lumberjacks capitalized on Toledo's penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage.

In addition, Cleveland received assists from Houmard, who had one and Avery Huibregtse, who had two.

The Cherokee's offense rang up 40 shots on Cleveland's net.

Toledo was helped by Brody Duncan, who finished with one goal. Duncan scored 19:17 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Cody Estrel picked up the assist. Zalecki also scored for Toledo. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Austin Turner and McGee, who each chipped in one.

Alec Rounds rejected 38 shots on goal for the Jr. Lumberjacks. Cleveland ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Callan recorded 28 saves for the Cherokee. Toledo totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Cherokee ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyler Omey was ejected from the game.
