La Crosse survives Chicago comeback, wins 6-5

The La Crosse Freeze, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Chicago Junior Bulldogs and clinched a 6-5 victory.

La Crosse led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Freeze's Justin Edwards scored at 46 seconds in the second period to put La Crosse up 4-1.

Hunter Smith was all over the ice for the Freeze, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Smith scored 17:24 into the third period to make the score 6-5 La Crosse. Taylor Trapp assisted on the tally.

La Crosse's offense rang up 35 shots on Chicago's net. The Freeze's goal total was higher than their season average. This season, La Crosse averages 3.4 goals per contest.

La Crosse additionally got points from Jake Lipski, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Ben Henderson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for La Crosse included Jared Bromberg and Austin Moser, who each put in one. In addition, La Crosse received assists from Jace Cseter and Daniel Toycen, who each chipped in one.

The Freeze were unable to stop the Junior Bulldogs from sending pucks towards the net, and Chicago eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. The defensemen of the Junior Bulldogs were also effective in La Crosse's zone, and came away with two goals.

Chicago was helped by Scott Coash Jr, who had one goal. Coash Jr scored 3:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chicago. Scott Schroeder provided the assist. Chicago also got points from Schroeder, who also registered one goal and one assist and Michael Howard, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Chicago also had goals scored by Taylor Hamilton and Tyler Seltenriech, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Chicago were Scott Herbster, Henry Hearon, Ryan Maksimovic, and Niko Moulakelis, who contributed one each and Kyle Barna and Michael Ellis, who each chipped in two.

The Freeze's Cameron Scheuren stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. La Crosse incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Sam Harden made 29 saves for the Junior Bulldogs on 35 shots. Chicago incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
