Cuni's big game bests Dallas in 7-3 Sugar Land win

The Sugar Land Imperials' John Cuni had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-3 win over the Dallas Jr. Stars.

Cuni scored on the power play at 15:52 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Sugar Land and again while on the power play 19:25 into the second to make the score 4-2 Sugar Land.

Dallas' power play was ineffective against Sugar Land's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Imperials were often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Sugar Land had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Imperials stifled the Jr. Stars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Sugar Land kept Dallas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Anthony Galliart made 35 saves on 42 shots. The Imperials bested their season scoring average. Sugar Land has scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

Sugar Land also got points from Frank Muscarella, who also had three goals and one assist and Anthony Chesrow, who also registered one goal and one assist. Spencer Sabourin also scored for Sugar Land. More assists for Sugar Land came via Aksel Campbell, who had three, Josh Rocco and Frazer Ellis, who each chipped in one, and Mason Smith and Matt DeNure, who contributed two each.

The Jr. Stars' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Dallas surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Jr. Stars were helped by Aaron Torres, who tallied one goal. Torres scored 16:40 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Tyler Valentin assisted on the tally. Dallas additionally got points from Josig Rochon, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dallas also got a goal from Drew Hill as well. In addition, Dallas received assists from Brandon Baker, Colton Schultz, and Blake McIntyre, who each chipped in one.

Colton Anderson rejected 23 shots on goal for the Imperials. Sugar Land registered three goals on seven power play opportunities.
