Alexandria vanquishes Twin City in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Alexandria Blizzard defeated the Twin City Steel in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Twin City got a shootout goal from Alex Egle. Alexandria also got a shootout goal from Aaron Ryback.

Tom Schmidt had two goals to lead the Blizzard to victory. Schmidt's tallies came at 19:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alexandria and 11:29 into the third to make the score 3-2 Alexandria.

Alexandria put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Steel to score on any of their three power plays. The Blizzard forced Twin City goalie Parker Butler to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Luke Pavelich also scored for Alexandria. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Tyler Sworsky, who had two and Kyle Jones, Logan Norman, Bo Gronseth, and Tony Arias, who each chipped in one.

The Steel's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Alexandria power plays. Twin City's offense rang up 38 shots on Alexandria's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Steel were helped by James Hale, who registered one goal. Hale scored 9:53 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jay Paul provided the assist. Twin City also had goals scored by Mathias Ahman and Nicholas Campbell, who each put in one. More assists for Twin City came via Egle, David Becker, Chris Skordilis, Lance Carney, and Jake McGlocklin, who contributed one each.

The Blizzard's Tanner Elmore stopped 35 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Alexandria incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Parker Butler made 34 saves for Twin City on 37 shots. The Steel incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
