Sean Smalley finished with one point to lead the West Michigan Wolves to a 3-1 victory over the Sugar Land Imperials. West Michigan also got points from Dakota Ulmer, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. West Michigan also got a goal from Benjamin Sera as well. More assists for West Michigan came via Mike Difranco, who had one and Michael Tratar, who had two. Sugar Land put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow West Michigan to score on any of its five power plays. The Imperials' offense were handcuffed by the Wolves' defensive play, and Sugar Land managed only 14 shots on goal during the game. The Imperials were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 48 penalty minutes. Sugar Land was led by Mason Smith, who scored the team's only goal. Smith scored on the power play 8:33 into the third period to make the score 2-1 West Michigan. The Imperials earned a power play opportunity when Zack Lloyd was put in the box for tripping. Frank Muscarella assisted on the tally. Kyler Patenaude recorded 13 saves for West Michigan. The Wolves incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Timothy OSullivan made 25 saves for Sugar Land on 28 shots. The Imperials registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Sugar Land ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt DeNure was ejected from the game.
