West Michigan outlasts Pittsburgh, 5-3Schwan SR-5 Sun, Dec 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the West Michigan Wolves and the Pittsburgh Vengeance was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end West Michigan emerged with a 5-3 win. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Michael Tratar at 6:55 of the second period. Tratar had two goals to lead the Wolves to victory. West Michigan pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. West Michigan also had goals scored by Josh Somers, Kyle Keeder, and Devin Farkas, who each put in one. In addition, West Michigan received assists from Corey Siwula, Steven Rhodes, Mike Difranco, Sean Smalley, and Brandon Benaglio, who contributed one each and Zack Lloyd and Dakota Ulmer, who each chipped in two. Pittsburgh was helped by Yevgeniy Gladkiy, who finished with one goal. Gladkiy scored 1:41 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Gus Peponidis assisted on the tally. Pittsburgh also got points from Bryan Hovanec, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Nils Markgren, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Pittsburgh were Cody Black and Michael Straub, who contributed one each. Chase Stanford made 19 saves for the Wolves on 22 shots. West Michigan registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Brian Baker rejected 24 shots on goal for the Vengeance. Pittsburgh incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
