Sugar Land falls to Topeka in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Topeka Capitals' Steve MacIver scored 4:07 into overtime to beat the Sugar Land Imperials, 5-4 (OT).

Topeka came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Capitals fell behind 4-1 after a goal by Sugar Land's Matthew Winkle at 11:06 in the second period. Topeka knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Tre Kautzman at 12:38 in the third period.

The Capitals got the win behind a great game by Alex Johanson, who had one goal and two assists. Johanson scored 4:43 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Drew Kelly assisted on the tally.

Topeka stifled the Imperials' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Sugar Land was unable to stop the Capitals from sending pucks towards the net, and Topeka eventually piled up 56 shots on goal. The Capitals struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Topeka also got points from Alex Sauer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Trey Opack also scored for Topeka. In addition, Topeka received assists from John Crusinberry and Kyle Rimbach, who each chipped in one.

The Imperials forced Topeka's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 33 shots and forcing 29 saves. Bailey Aust made 12 stops and Brett Malkmus made 17. Sugar Land could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Imperials were led by Frank Muscarella, who tallied one goal and one assist. Muscarella scored 6:45 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Sugar Land. Matthew Jung provided the assist. Sugar Land also had goals scored by Frazer Ellis and Aksel Campbell, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Sugar Land were Mason Smith and Anthony Chesrow, who contributed one each.

The Capitals registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Colton Anderson recorded 51 saves for Sugar Land.
