West Michigan downs Toledo, 5-2

Josh Somers tallied two points to lead the West Michigan Wolves to a 5-2 victory over the Toledo Cherokee.

West Michigan also got points from Corey Siwula, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Steven Rhodes, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Sean Smalley, who also finished with one goal and one assist. West Michigan also got a goal from Devin Farkas as well. In addition, West Michigan received assists from Alex Olson and Brandon Benaglio, who each chipped in one and Michael Tratar and Dakota Ulmer, who contributed two each.

Toledo kept West Michigan's goalie busy throughout the game, and Hunter Vorva made 36 saves on 38 shots. The Cherokee's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Toledo is averaging 2.3 goals against for the season.

The Cherokee were helped by Cam Schwartz, who tallied one goal. Schwartz scored on the power play 17:14 into the second period to make the score 3-2 West Michigan. Toledo earned a power play opportunity when Tratar was put in the box for checking from behind. Mark McGee provided the assist. Tyler Zalecki also scored for Toledo. More assists for Toledo came via David Bogart, who had one and Cody Estrel, who had two.

The Wolves incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Glen Bates made 25 saves for the Cherokee on 28 shots. Toledo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
