Minnesota holds on for 4-2 win against Alexandria

The Minnesota Flying Aces survived a determined comeback attempt by the Alexandria Blizzard on the way to a 4-2 win.

Minnesota took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Alexandria storm back on a Nate Mettenburg goal 18:23 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Flying Aces pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes.

Minnesota outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Flying Aces average 1.8 goal per contest.

Minnesota was helped by Isak Larson, who had one goal. Larson scored 8:06 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Minnesota. AJ Gullickson picked up the assist. Minnesota also got points from Bradee Thompson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Jake Mullendore, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Tyler Leverty also scored for Minnesota. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Matt Olson, who had two and Joshua Malin, Blake Neumann, and Ty Ennis, who contributed one each.

The Blizzard did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Alexandria averages 4.2 goals per game.

Alexandria also got a goal from Tyler Sworsky as well. More assists for Alexandria came via Eric Hewitt, Kyle Jones, and Logan Norman, who each chipped in one.

Kevin OShea made 27 saves for the Flying Aces on 29 shots. Minnesota registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Blizzard's Tanner Elmore stopped 16 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Alexandria incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
