Desrosiers lifts Southern Tier over Cleveland, 6-3

Behind a great game by Brandon Desrosiers, who had four goals, the Southern Tier Xpress defeated the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, 6-3.

Desrosiers got on the scoresheet 11:09 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:14 into the first, at 14:08 into the second, and at 1:31 into the third.

Southern Tier pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 54 penalty minutes.

The Xpress kept Cleveland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Sam Pikus made 25 saves on 31 shots. Southern Tier excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing the Jr. Lumberjacks to get one power play goal on 13 chances. The Xpress outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Southern Tier averages 3.8 goals per contest.

Southern Tier also got points from Curtis Carlson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Tim Weisgerber also scored for Southern Tier. More assists for Southern Tier came via Luke Sunde, who had three, Jake Wasem and Aleksandr Koshelev, who each chipped in one, and Owen Harris and Mark Sunde, who contributed two each.

Cleveland forced the Xpress goalie Cody Gibson to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Jr. Lumberjacks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 22 penalty minutes.

Cleveland was led by Tyler Dalton, who tallied two goals. Dalton scored the first of his two goals at 14:51 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Southern Tier. Daniel Goodwin picked up the assist. Dalton's next tally made the score 4-3 Southern Tier with 14:30 left in the second period. Cleveland also got a goal from Avery Huibregtse as well. In addition, Cleveland received assists from John Barlow, who had two.

Gibson recorded 30 saves for Southern Tier. The Xpress registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
