Cleveland vanquishes Cincinnati in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks defeated the Cincinnati Swords in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Cleveland's other shootout goal was scored by Tyler Houmard.

The Jr. Lumberjacks overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cleveland was down 2-1 after a power play goal by Cincinnati's Blake Hinds at 16:47 in the second period. The Jr. Lumberjacks tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Houmard at 7:19 in the third period.

Cleveland also got a goal from Ryker Barber as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Mitch Renstrom, Aaron Schmitt, Zack Mlady, and Patrick Briggs, who each chipped in one.

The Swords stifled Cleveland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cincinnati forced the Jr. Lumberjacks goalie Alec Rounds to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Andrew Bond also scored for Cincinnati. In addition, Cincinnati received assists from Ramsey Mayne, Hunter Schneider, Gennadi Zabeline, and Adam Goudelock, who contributed one each.

Rounds recorded 31 saves for Cleveland. The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brandon Kruger rejected 27 shots on goal for the Swords. Cincinnati incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
