Southern Tier falls to Pittsburgh after surprising comeback

The Pittsburgh Vengeance climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Southern Tier Xpress, 3-2.

Pittsburgh never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Vengeance trailed 2-0 after a goal by Southern Tier's Tyler Berry at 4:24 in the third period. Pittsburgh knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Cody Black at 11:41 in the third period. The Vengeance got the game winner on the power play at 14:50 in the third period on a goal by Black.

Tyler Speis had a great game for Pittsburgh, netting two goals.

The Vengeance's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Pittsburgh finished with 24 penalty minutes.

In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Nils Markgren, who had two and Eli Lynn and Gavin Cummings, who each chipped in one.

The Xpress found themselves short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Southern Tier was helped by Owen Harris, who tallied one goal. Harris scored on the power play 15:12 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Southern Tier. A checking from behind penalty on Parker Henry had put the Xpress on the power play. Alec Hooper picked up the assist. More assists for Southern Tier came via Cody Maulsby, Jake Wasem, and Victor Mccutcheon, who contributed one each.

The Vengeance's Jacob Stack stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Tyler Geloneck made 22 saves for Southern Tier on 25 shots. The Xpress registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
