Alexandria uses big games from Gronseth and Schmidt to down Twin City, 7-4

Behind one goal and three assists from Bo Gronseth and one goal and one assist from Tom Schmidt, the Alexandria Blizzard downed the Twin City Steel 7-4.

Gronseth scored on the power play 6:18 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alexandria. Alexandria earned a power play opportunity when Jay Paul was put in the box for tripping. Nate Mettenburg picked up the assist. Schmidt scored 51 seconds into the third period to make the score 5-3 Alexandria. Gronseth assisted on the tally.

The Blizzard's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Twin City power plays.

Alexandria additionally got points from Schmidt, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Tony Arias, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Mettenburg, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Alexandria included Tom Monteiro, Logan Norman, and Tyler Sworsky, who each put in one. More assists for Alexandria came via Matt Resch, who had one and Kyle Jones and Christian Canavati, who each chipped in two.

Alexandria was unable to stop Twin City from sending pucks towards the net, and the Steel eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Twin City was helped by Kyle Wagner, who registered two goals. Wagner scored the first of his two goals at 8:45 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Alexandria. Paul picked up the assist. Wagner's next tally made the score 4-3 Alexandria with 9:09 left in the second period. David Becker provided the assist. Jared Erickson also scored for Twin City. In addition, Twin City received assists from Mikko Aho, who had two and Aharon Lara and Chris Skordilis, who contributed one each.

The Blizzard's Evan Bisek stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Alexandria totaled 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Darien Jones recorded 22 saves for the Steel. Twin City incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
