Nashville uses shootout to best Topeka, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Nashville Jr. Predators defeated the Topeka Capitals in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Nashville got a shootout goal from Jacob Lainesse.

The Jr. Predators overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Nashville was down 2-1 after a power play goal by Topeka's Igor Valko at 10:07 in the third period. The Jr. Predators tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Rudolfs Kalvitis at 11:17 in the third period.

Nashville was helped by Trent Kulczyk, who had one goal. Kulczyk scored on the power play 18:17 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Jr. Predators had gotten the advantage when the Capitals' Drew Hill was sent off for cross checking. Colton Anderson assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Nashville were Lainesse and Spencer Marchand, who each chipped in one.

Topeka was helped by Dylan Wattles, who racked up one goal. Wattles scored 10:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Spencer Sabourin picked up the assist. More assists for Topeka came via Andrew Cooley, who had one and Tre Opack, who had two.

Nathan Klebe rejected 22 shots on goal for Nashville. The Jr. Predators incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brett Malkmus made 20 saves for the Capitals on 22 shots. Topeka incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
