Point Mallard beats Sugar Land 11-2 as Dukus gets hat trick

The Sugar Land Imperials could not stop the Point Mallard Ducks' Grant Dukus, who tallied a hat trick in an 11-2 win.

Dukus got on the scoresheet 51 seconds into the second period. He then added goals at 8:25 into the third and at 18:29 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:12 into the second period. Twelve fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Point Mallard forced Imperials' goalies to work in net, firing 51 shots and forcing 40 saves. Christopher Otap made 29 stops and Nick Ross made 11. The Ducks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Point Mallard averages 3.8 goals per game.

Point Mallard additionally got points from Matt Darnell, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jake Cox, who also had four goals and three assists, and Justin Dunn, who also tallied one goal and three assists. Point Mallard also had goals scored by Davis VanGemerden and Justin Clark, who each put in one. More assists for Point Mallard came via Jaleel Rosemond, who had two, Noah Gilreath, who had three, and Chandler Brown, Jake Champaign, Jiri Ryyppo, Davis Hudson, and Matt Goodman, who each chipped in one.

Sugar Land racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and three majors for 59 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 35.0 minutes per game the Imperials had been spending in the box.

Cooper Seedott rejected 20 shots on goal for the Ducks. Point Mallard totaled 71 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Ducks, Stephen Coulter and Justin Delisle were ejected from the contest. Sugar Land registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Ryan Meyer and Anthony Chesrow were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
