Kanata survives Smiths Falls comeback, wins 3-1

The Kanata Stallions came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Smiths Falls Bears, but did just enough to escape with a 3-1 victory.

Kanata led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Stallions' Mike Tropea scored at 5:39 in the second period to put Kanata up 3-0.

The Stallions were led by goalie Patrick Kealey, who finished with 38 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Kealey will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Kanata was led by Ian Johnston, who tallied one goal and one assist. Johnston scored 28 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Kanata. Cameron Radziwon provided the assist.

Kanata also got points from Radziwon, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Kanata received assists from Ethan MacLean, who had two and Joey Laird and Nicholas Turenko, who contributed one each.

Smiths Falls stifled the Stallions' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bears' offense rang up 39 shots on Kanata's net.

Smiths Falls was led by Karson McCartney, who scored the team's only goal. McCartney scored 7:05 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kanata. Chase Hawley assisted on the tally.

The Stallions totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Kanata ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Turenko was ejected from the game. Michael Pinios rejected 24 shots on goal for the Bears. Smiths Falls totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For the Bears, Hawley was ejected from the game.
