Hawkesbury survives Kemptville comeback, wins 6-5

The Hawkesbury Hawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Kemptville 73s on the way to a 6-5 win.

Hawkesbury made the score 6-3 on a goal by Paul Vella at 8:36 in the third period, and Kemptville got as close as 6-5 when Matt Tugnutt scored 17:15 into the third period.

Hunter Racine was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Racine scored 11:19 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jason Brochu assisted on the tally.

Hawkesbury forced 73s' netminders to work in net, firing 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Jacob Tugnutt made 30 stops and Nicholas Hodgins made five. The Hawks outdid their season average for goals scored. Hawkesbury averages 3.5 goals per game. The Hawks cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Damien Charette, who also registered one goal and two assists, Brochu, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Jonathan Cyr, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Liam Alcalde also scored for Hawkesbury. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from CJ Stubbs, who had two and Reid Murphy, Alex Anderson, and Chris Harper, who contributed one each.

The 73s' offense rang up 38 shots on Hawkesbury's net. Kemptville took advantage of the Hawks' penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

The 73s were helped by Alex Row, who had two goals and one assist. Row scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kemptville. Kemptville had gotten the advantage when Hawkesbury's Stubbs was sent off for hooking. Erik Brown picked up the assist. Row's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 19:29 left in the third period. Jason Tackett assisted on the tally. Kemptville also got points from Brown, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Kemptville also got a goal from Tyson Kirkby as well. More assists for Kemptville came via Shawn Cameron, who had one and Dean Galasso, who had two.

The Hawks' Gunner Rivers stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Hawkesbury incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The 73s incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
