Hawkesbury survives penalties, beats Cumberland, 6-0

The Cumberland Grads failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Hawkesbury Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-0.

Hawkesbury was sparked by Jason Brochu, who had one goal. Brochu scored on the power play 19:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hawkesbury. A tripping penalty on Chandler Watson had put the Hawks on the power play. Rory Gagnon assisted on the tally.

Hawkesbury excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Cumberland was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hawkesbury eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Hawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Hawkesbury averages 3.3 goals per game.

Hawkesbury also got points from Damien Charette, who also registered one goal and one assist, Alex Anderson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Liam Alcalde, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hawkesbury also had goals scored by Paul Vella and Hunter Racine, who scored one goal each. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Chris Harper, who had two and Pierre Ouellette, Ross Mandigo, CJ Stubbs, and Nicholas Centauro, who each chipped in one.

The Grads were held below their usual level of production. Cumberland puts an average of 2.5 pucks into the net per game.

CJ Sharp recorded 21 saves for the Hawks. Hawkesbury incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Grads' Paul Leger stopped 28 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Cumberland incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
