Gloucester survives Nepean comeback, wins 3-1

Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1    Sun, Jan 11, 2015

The Gloucester Rangers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Nepean Raiders on the way to a 3-1 win.

A goal by Zachary Borsoi put Gloucester up 3-0 in the third period, but Nepean pulled to within two on Felix Page's tally 15:18 into the third period.

The Rangers' Doug Johnston was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Johnston will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.68.

Gloucester stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Rangers were helped by Liam Biard, who tallied one goal. Biard scored 3:28 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Gloucester. Borsoi picked up the assist. Gloucester also got points from Borsoi, who also had one goal and one assist and Max Veronneau, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Gloucester came via Ryan Kuffner, who had two and Alex Bilodeau and Matt Foget, who each chipped in one.

Nepean forced Gloucester goalie Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Devin Fullum and Rory Garlasco, who contributed one each.

The Rangers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Raiders' Francis Marotte stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Nepean incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Raiders, Corey Tam was ejected from the game.
