Kemptville downs Cumberland, 6-3

The Kemptville 73s took home the 6-3 victory over the Cumberland Grads.

Kemptville forced Grads' netminders to work all game long, ripping 39 shots and forcing 33 saves. Paul Leger made 26 stops and Kevin Gollmer made seven. The 73s surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Kemptville averages 3.8 goals per game.

The 73s were led by Erik Brown, who finished with two goals. Brown scored the first of his two goals at 3:20 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kemptville. Brandon Cole picked up the assist. Brown's next tally made the score 5-3 Kemptville with 11:34 left in the third period. Jason Tackett provided the assist. Kemptville additionally got points from Owen Guy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Kemptville also had goals scored by Aaron Hickie, Dean Galasso, and Matt Tugnutt, who each put in one. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Brandon Lesway, who had three and Tyson Kirkby, Shane Riddell, Kaelan OFlynn, Jake Gaudet, Alex Row, and Tyler Young, who contributed one each.

Cumberland forced Kemptville goalie Jacob Tugnutt to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Grads were led by Travis Douglas, who had two goals. Douglas scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:19 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Kemptville. Cumberland earned a power play opportunity when Riddell was put in the box for slashing. Matthew Morin picked up the assist. Douglas' next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Kemptville with 1:08 left in the second period. The Grads had gained a power play chance when Galasso was whistled for tripping. Morin assisted on the tally. Cumberland also got a goal from Cody Kyle as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Zackhary Salloum, who had two and Thomas Mansbridge and Brett Faber, who each chipped in one.

Tugnutt recorded 31 saves for the 73s. Kemptville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cumberland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
