Jim Durrell Complex-Peplinski    Wed, Jan 07, 2015

Erik Brown netted a hat trick to lead the Kemptville 73s over the Ottawa Senators, 4-1.

Brown got on the scoresheet 8:37 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:35 into the third and at 19:52 into the third.

Kemptville was led by goalie Jacob Tugnutt, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Tugnutt certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.34 entering the contest.

The 73s put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ottawa to score on any of its three power plays.

Dean Galasso also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Alex Row, who had three and Shane Riddell, Brandon Cole, and Shawn Cameron, who each chipped in one.

The Senators managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Ottawa wound up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Senators did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Ottawa puts an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game.

The Senators were led by Robert Michel, who scored the team's only goal. Michel scored 2:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Shawn Lynch assisted on the tally.

Kemptville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ottawa's Ian Andriano stopped 14 shots out of the 17 that he faced.
