A stellar performance between the pipes by Gunner Rivers helped the Hawkesbury Hawks defeat the Carleton Place Canadians, 3-1.

Hawkesbury's penalty kill excelled, as the Hawks gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Hawkesbury was led by Hunter Racine, who had one goal. Racine scored 9:26 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. Paul Vella picked up the assist.

The Hawks stifled Carleton Place's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hawkesbury kept the Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Guillaume Therien made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Jonathan Cyr and Alex Anderson, who each put in one. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Pierre Ouellette and Phil Johansson, who each chipped in one.

Carleton Place was held below its usual level of production. The Canadians put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. Carleton Place's offense rang up 33 shots on the Hawks' net.

The Canadians were led by Bryce VanHorn, who scored the team's only goal. VanHorn scored 3:56 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. AJ Klein assisted on the tally.

Rivers rejected 32 shots on goal for Hawkesbury. The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Carleton Place incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
