Pembroke uses big second period to beat Kanata, 7-2Kanata Recreational Complex Thu, Dec 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pembroke Lumber Kings scored four goals in the second period to pull away from the Kanata Stallions and clinch a 7-2 win. Pembroke was paced by Owen McDade, who registered one goal and one assist. McDade scored eight seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Pembroke. The Lumber Kings forced Kanata's goalies to work without much rest, getting 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Andrew Cipollone made 18 stops and Brian Wilson made 14. Pembroke's goal total was higher than its season average. The Lumber Kings average 3.9 goals per game. Pembroke's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Lumber Kings finished with 22 penalty minutes. Pembroke also got points from Hudson Michaelis, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Ryan Casselman, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Pembroke also had goals scored by Anthony Nellis, who had two and Cameron Hughes and Felix Chamberland, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pembroke came via Stephan Beauvais, who had two and Mitchell Mueller, Jesse Blais, Adam Dauda, Stephen Cooney, Alexandre Boivin, Adam Beveridge, and Brett Horn, who contributed one each. The Stallions were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 19 penalty minutes. Team could not crack Pembroke's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Kanata was led by Ian Johnston, who had one goal and one assist. Johnston scored on the power play 57 seconds into the third period to make the score 5-1 Pembroke. Jean-Philippe Langlois provided the assist. Kanata also got a goal from Hugo Petit as well. In addition, Kanata received assists from Bryce Biller and James Thomson, who each chipped in one. The Lumber Kings' Jordan Piccolino stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Pembroke registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Stallions ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Antoine Paradis was ejected from the game.
