The Ottawa Senators tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Smiths Falls Bears would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4. Smiths Falls made the score 5-2 on a goal by Kevin Groulx at 6:48 in the third period, and Ottawa got as close as 5-4 when Joey Champigny scored 17:19 into the third period. Smiths Falls also got points from Josh Leblanc, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Chase Hawley, Connor Rankin, and Karson McCartney, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Chris MacMillan, who had one and Taylor Henry and Cole Busschaert, who contributed two each. The Senators' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Ottawa gives up 2.2 goals per game. The Senators were led by Carl Faucher, who had two goals and one assist. Faucher scored the first of his two goals at 12:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. Thomas Crevier picked up the assist. Faucher's next tally made the score 5-3 Smiths Falls with 3:30 left in the third period. Shawn Lynch provided the assist. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Jim Pearson, who had two and Matthew Cruickshank and Alexandre Way, who each chipped in one. Michael Pinios made 25 saves for the Bears on 29 shots. Smiths Falls incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities. Alexandre Savard-Belanger made 17 saves before being replaced by Ian Andriano, who took the loss and made two saves. Ottawa ended with no penalties and went 1-for-2 on the power play. |
