Smiths Falls uses shootout to best Brockville, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Smiths Falls Bears defeated the Brockville Braves in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Brockville's shootout goal was scored by Liam Folkes. In addition to the clincher, Smiths Falls got a shootout goal from Nicolas Coates.

The Bears overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Smiths Falls fell behind 3-2 after a power play goal by the Braves' Sean King at 12:45 in the third period. The Bears tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kevin Groulx at 15:29 in the third period.

Smiths Falls kept Brockville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Bo Taylor made 32 saves on 36 shots.

The Bears were helped by Cole Busschaert, who finished with one goal. Busschaert scored 1:56 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Groulx assisted on the tally. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Ryan Duhaime, who also had one goal and one assist and Groulx, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Josh Leblanc, Taylor Henry, Neil Doef, and Coates, who contributed one each.

The Braves put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Smiths Falls to score on any of its three power plays. The Bears were unable to stop Brockville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Braves eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Brockville was helped by Folkes, who registered one goal. Folkes scored 17:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brockville. Steven Windt picked up the assist. Jack Gill also scored for Brockville. More assists for Brockville came via Ethan Weiss, Tre Folkes, Jack Patterson, and Tristan Whynot, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls' Michael Pinios stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The Bears ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Smiths Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chase Hawley was ejected from the game. The Braves totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For Brockville, Brett Van Stralen was ejected from the game.
