Carleton Place's Sturtz deadly on offense in 3-1 win against Hawkesbury

Andy Sturtz was all over the ice for the Carleton Place Canadians, as he tallied two goals in Carleton Place's 3-1 win over the Hawkesbury Hawks.

Sturtz scored short handed at 11:37 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place and again while 19:53 into the third to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place.

The Canadians were led by goalie Guillaume Therien, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Therien will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.91.

Carleton Place's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Hawkesbury power plays. The Canadians kept Hawkesbury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gunner Rivers made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Carleton Place also got a goal from Connor Merkley as well. More assists for Carleton Place came via Devin Campbell, Tyson Stewart, Bryce VanHorn, and Jordan Larson, who contributed one each.

The Hawks stifled Carleton Place's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canadians were unable to stop Hawkesbury from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Hawkesbury was led by Rory Gagnon, who scored the team's only goal. Gagnon scored 14:29 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Hunter Racine provided the assist.

Carleton Place totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Canadians ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Craig Pefley was ejected from the game. The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
