Carleton Place survives penalties, beats Brockville, 5-2

The Carleton Place Canadians' penalty kill was superb, as Carleton Place survived multiple penalties to beat the Brockville Braves, 5-2.

The Canadians were sparked by Andy Sturtz, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Sturtz scored on the power play 12:11 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. A holding penalty on Sean King had put Carleton Place on the power play. Jordan Larson provided the assist.

The Canadians put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brockville to score on any of its six power plays. Carleton Place kept the Braves' goalie busy throughout the game, and David Poirier made 35 saves on 40 shots.

Carleton Place also got points from Stephen Baylis, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Carleton Place also had goals scored by Tyson Stewart, Wesley Baker, and Alex Robinson, who each put in one. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from David Eccles, Adam Lloyd, Alex Vala, Bryce VanHorn, Craig Pefley, and Nicolas Mucci, who contributed one each.

The defensemen of Brockville were also effective in the Canadians' zone, and came away with two goals.

The Braves were helped by Tyler Greenberg, who tallied one goal. Greenberg scored 18:54 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Carleton Place. Eric Israel picked up the assist. Brockville additionally got points from Israel, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Brockville came via Jack Gill, who had one.

Guillaume Therien recorded 21 saves for Carleton Place. The Canadians incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brockville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
