Brockville falls to Smiths Falls after surprising comeback

The Smiths Falls Bears climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Brockville Braves, 5-4.

Smiths Falls never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Bears fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Brockville's Liam Folkes at 7:04 in the third period. Smiths Falls tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Kevin Groulx at 18:56 in the third period. The Bears got the game winner at 19:25 in the third period on a goal by Groulx.

Neil Doef had two goals and three assists to lead Smiths Falls. Doef scored the first of his two goals at 3:51 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Groulx assisted on the tally. Doef's next tally made the score 2-2 with 7:01 left in the second period. A holding penalty on Eric Israel had put the Bears on the power play. Groulx picked up the assist.

Smiths Falls also got points from Groulx, who also finished with two goals and three assists and Cole Busschaert, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Daniel Lombardi and Brody Brunet, who contributed one each.

Brockville also got a goal from Sean King as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brockville were Jack Billings, who had two and Brett Van Stralen, Dylan McCrory, and Andrew Peski, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls took out Michael Pinios after he had made 20 saves and installed Cole Skinner in goal, where he finished with two saves and the win. The Bears incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. David Poirier rejected 18 shots on goal for the Braves. Brockville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
