Ottawa blows out Hawkesbury, 4-1

The Ottawa Senators were firing on all cylinders against the Hawkesbury Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Senators emerged with a 4-1 win.

Ottawa was led by goalie Alexandre Savard-Belanger, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Savard-Belanger certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.22 entering the contest.

The Senators' penalty kill excelled, as Ottawa gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Senators stifled Hawkesbury's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks were unable to stop Ottawa from sending pucks towards the net, and the Senators eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Ottawa's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Senators finished with 18 penalty minutes.

Ottawa was helped by Carl Faucher, who finished with one goal and one assist. Faucher scored short handed 19:11 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. The Senators were on a disadvantage when Connor Bebb went off the ice for slashing. Joey Champigny provided the assist. Ottawa additionally got points from Jim Pearson, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Ottawa included Shawn Lynch and Derek Varrin, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Cody Bean, who had one.

Hawkesbury could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Hawks put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.

Hawkesbury was led by CJ Stubbs, who scored the team's only goal. Stubbs scored 9:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. Phil Johansson picked up the assist.

Ottawa registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Hawks' Gunner Rivers stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Hawkesbury incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
