Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kemptville 73s defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.Kemptville saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The 73s made the score 4-2 on a goal by Alex Row at 6:58 in the third period. Smiths Falls evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Taylor Henry at 19:59 in the third period. Jason Tackett had two goals and one assist to lead Kemptville. Tackett scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:44 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A slashing penalty on Chris MacMillan had put the 73s on the power play. Owen Guy assisted on the tally. Tackett's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Kemptville with 7:54 left in the second period. Kemptville had gotten the advantage when the Bears' Connor Cobbold was sent off for tripping. Brandon Cole provided the assist. The 73s forced Smiths Falls' goaltenders to work between the pipes, racking up 39 shots and forcing 34 saves. Michael Pinios made 21 stops and Cole Skinner made 13. Shawn Cameron also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Quinn Wichers, who had two and Cody Hendsbee, Aaron Hickie, and Matt Tugnutt, who contributed one each. The Bears were led by Kevin Groulx, who registered one goal and two assists. Groulx scored on the power play 1:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls. Smiths Falls had taken the advantage when Kemptville's Wichers got sent off for roughing. MacMillan picked up the assist. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Josh Leblanc and Cole Busschaert, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Ryan Duhaime and Neil Doef, who each chipped in one. Jacob Tugnutt rejected 25 shots on goal for the 73s. Kemptville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Bears incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
